01 about

colin takahashi (he/him; they/them)
licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT 132375)

I am a queer, Korean-Japanese American. As I've walked through the world as such, there have been countless times when I've been told that I'm not man enough, that I'm unfit for love, and that I don't have a story that deserves to be heard. All too often, I've heard similar accounts from others who belong to the same communities I do. It is for this reason that I became a therapist - I have a strong desire to support those who have felt the most othered by society.

To better prepare myself for this work, I completed my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Southern California. I've had the opportunity to train in various settings, including the Southern California Counseling Center, Venice Family Clinic, and UCLA's Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program. I have experience working with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, racial identity development, exploration of gender identity and sexual orientation, family conflict, relational discord, and career navigation. I have also had the privilege of volunteering with the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Community Action Network, supporting LGBTQI+ youth through awareness building and competency training.

02 approach
Much of my work is informed by the idea that, in order for us to heal, we must feel like our perspective matters. That begins with an acceptance that your struggles are valid and deserving of attention. I strive to create an inclusive, affirmative space where you feel supported to speak your truth into existence. In our time together, we will identify the many forces that have impacted your ability to live authentically. Through the lens of social justice and cultural humility, I will approach our work from a relational place, while also integrating practices centered in acceptance and commitment.
03 services
individual therapy
Whatever your struggles may be (e.g., unmanageable anxiety, heavy feelings of depression, identity confusion), therapy can become a place of exploration and support. I can assist you with identifying and moving towards the change you'd like to see in your life.
couples therapy
We can often get stuck in similar patterns, which impacts our ability to connect and address problems that may arise within relationships. I will help facilitate new ways of communicating, approaching conflict, and being intimate.
telehealth
I offer HIPAA compliant telehealth/video sessions for both individuals and couples, who may have a difficult time coming in for therapy due to schedule and distance. If you are located in California and think this may be a good option for you, please reach out so we can discuss.
04 fees
My standard fee is $175 per 50-minute session for individual and couples therapy.
If cost is a barrier to therapy, please contact me to discuss the possibility of a reduced fee. I have a limited number of sliding scale, reduced fee slots available for those who may have financial concerns.

I am not currently empaneled with any health insurance; however, I can provide you with a superbill, which you can submit for possible reimbursement.
05 contact
If you have any questions or are looking to explore working together, don’t hesitate to reach out. We can schedule a free, 20-minute consultation to discuss your goals for therapy and to see if we might be a good fit.
